Black & Brown Moods

Obama may have lost yesterday in New Hampshire & I was like damn but today, I realized that I was still sexy. Fuck the primaries & politics all together. I think everyne should take a self portrait & try to understand what they see.

  • You know........You ain't got a lick of sense!!!

    SS come getcha boy!! LOL

Seriously, that's a good idea. I tried that with Morgan(12 year old daughter) and I had her put down the things that she sees in herself. Some good, some bad. I told her that she's a work in progress. She has to know who she is as a person and if she does't work on her inner self at such a critical age, that peer pressure will take over and she'll become what others want her to be rather than the person she knows she can be.

  • Erica C - Yes, we must work on our girls ASAP. Suite Suzy is a self esteem champion for the girls. Olivia & Sade are 9 & 10 respectively so these are the critical years as they begin to approach those tween/teen yeas as you already know.

Darius - yes, we are making the work out plan happen!!! LOL

Ebony - Thx so much for checking me out!!!

  • ...you should've put your hands in the picture after you put Quench Essentials on them. Do your company make chapstick?

  • Anon - LOL on the Quenched hands. We are considering a lip balm & may have something special for valentines day. but it is just a thought for now.

  • Very nice!!!

I called myself doing a self-portrait for my website when I first started putting all that stuff together. It actually came out pretty well (tho' it's not the one that's on there now).

The process of shooting it was actually pretty funny. --Me running back and forth trying to set up the shots, trying to keep the remote out of the way, trying different poses, etc. What was funnier was that I did this in my sunroom which has huge windows and faces the street (a very small, intimate street, but public nonetheless). Folks would drive by and honk (and probably crack up) as I was doing all of that.

Interesting thing is that I learned a lot about my facial expressions--particularly, when I THINK I'm smiling and projecting pleasantness vs. what other people actually see and interpret.

It seems that what I think my face reflects based on what I'm feeling often tends to be a little different from what other people see. I've had several people--strangers--just stop me on the street and say, "Honey, smile." [I'm one of those tends-towards-serious folks--HA!] And, I'm like, "Daymn." I *feel* quite pleasant, and likewise thought my face projected that, but I guess not!

So, it was interesting working with that in the camera and trying to figure out when I was smiling, when I wasn't, how big of a smile, etc. Felt silly at first, but then I got into it and actually went RuPaul on the whole thing. [bopping to "Supermodel" (the jam!) right now...]

    Again, very nice pic!

  • tamara, how much is it going to cost now that we have read your life story?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Friday, January 11, 2008 2:16:00 PM EST

  • Whatever.

After all, BB did say, "I think everyone should take a self portrait & try to understand what they see."

I was sharing since I had done this before myself--just not with the depth that he seemed to have done it with.

By the way, I was kind of hoping BB would indulge us in some of the behind the scenes events of his self-portrait--mental state during the shooting process, what you were going for, etc. (hint, hint).

  • Liz - Michelle is working that Vagina Power!!!!!

Tamra - Thx for going into detail. Doing self portraits is a bitch & what I did not mention was that this took about 30 shots using a remote. So this means that I had to get off my ass thirty times before I said fuck it, that is enough & I will make something work. So I feel you pain!!!

My wife says that I make faces all the time but I never know or feel that I am. She states that I am displaying anger or disgust when I feel quite the contrary.

Sometimes when I see a young person on the street looking stoic etc, I will tell them smile just because. Most times I get a smile & sometimes I get a get the fuck out my face bitch LOL.

To indulge you; I see a young man struggling to make something noteworthy of his life to serve as an example for 3 little girls.

I see a man who needs to get his financial house in order but struggling because of inherited poor financial behaviors.

I think I see a soul of a man who was a former Griot in because in this life, I love to tell stories & pass along my personal history to young ones.

My reflection is complicated but, as I grown older & wiser (somewhat) I am starting to become one with & understand the reflected me.

Anon - What are you trying to say & what's the point??? I'm the only one that jumps off up in this bitch
