Friends: How Many of us Have Them

The post title is inspired by Whodini's “Friends” cut from back in the day, which appeared on their Escape album.
"We like to be with some, because they're funny
Others come around when they need some money
Some you grew up with, around the way
And you're still real close too this very day

Homeboys through the Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall
And then there's some we wish we never knew at all
And this list goes on, again and again
But these are the people that we call friends"

We all know that money cannot buy love, but what I have found out lately is that money sure can buy friends.

Here is my latest new little friend that I found at the Ann Arbor Artesian Market.

I asked the kids to name her & Sade came up with Cheeka, so that is what we are rolling with.

Cheeka is made of a gooseneck gourd, prairie chicken feathers gold macaw feathers.

Don't ask why Cheeka has no mouth or nose.

Speaking of friends, Suite Suzy & I were talking this weekend over dinner & she mentioned that a few of my “friends” mentioned to her that they were uncomfortable with my name change & could not or rather would not respect it. Then she asked me f I cared; I responded with a big NO, because it shows me that they are not real friends anyway.

Real friends roll with the punches & can keep it real with “you”.

Anyway, let me get off soapbox cause I know my cyber space friends are feeling me.

  • Wow! That was cowardly move. The way I see it, if there's some shit you need to get off your chest about me don't go running to my spouse. Either man/woman up or keep that shit to yourself.

    I hope SS went off on them.

  • You are right, it was a wack move! I am sure that she did not go off as she was on the same page with these "friends" initially. Today, I am not sure how she would respond.

    Bottom line is I am at total peace & almost a year later, I do not see why people are tripping.

    I have a wonderful friend who changed her name for religious reasons. Sometimes I use it, but usually I don't. Not because I don't respect her choice...I actually think she's selected a beautiful name. No...it's just because my brain is very simply wired her face and her voice are tied in my brain to her 'old' name.

    I think it is more important why people aren't respecting your name change. If they are being rude or obnoxious, then really it wouldn't matter *what* they were calling you-- because clearly the beef between you has nothing to do with your name. Maybe they just don't like you Byg... just kidding ... maybe ... lol.

    On the other hand if they really care about you, there are really more important things to worry about...Everybody has or knows a relative who refuses to give up someone's childhood nickname. No matter how much you wince and complain, you're still Peanuthead or Bubba or Lil Bit to them. Sigh. So you just let it be.

    So what category do these 'friends' fall into ... is it passive aggression or an innocent lapse? If you have told them that it is really important to you that they use your new name and they won't, maybe you can have a follow up discussion and find out what their problem really is. It might shake some things loose.

  • When my friend changed his name to Per-A, I had a difficult time calling him that. Hell, I still do, lol. But I try to, and he is nice about it, and lets me slide, seeinig as Ive known him since he was 15! Hopefully these folks will come around.

  • Hhhhhhhmm, I've been pondering over this post for a minute. All I can seem to come up with are the questions of, why are people so afraid of change? What is so wrong with YOUR choice that they can't seem to respect that?! AND finally, Did those idiots think that SS wasn't gonna tell you?!?!?! Sorry, didn't mean to call your friends "idiots"........Naw, yes I did.
