Common: Be

Bygbaby.com Mindspill I just copped the new Common CD Be & I am totally digging it. I have always liked Common but not enough to drop the cash. All that changed when I seen't him in concert this spring w/Jill Scott. He put on a great show!!! Common is on a whole other level of consciousness spoken word & is very reminiscent to Gil Scott-Heron, the FIRST Hip-Hop performer. Here is a link to Common's video performance of "Go" which is one of the hottest tracks on the CD. I am also addicted to Testify, the hook & beat are off the chain.

And Still We Rise

Bygbaby.com Mindspill Recently I went to the Detroit Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History & saw the And Still We Rise exhibit for an African American Literature course I tool at Washtenaw Community College with Mona D. Benton . If you are in Detroit or close by, I would strongly recommend that you give this a visit.

There were several times during the exhibit I almost broke down in tears because it is sooooo moving & powerful. Fortunately I had a guide through with one of my school groups so it made it that much better, thanks Diane if you are out there!!!

Link, this is a good way to learn more about out past & how we got where we are now...
