No Sushi for You!
If there any Slum Village fans in the house, I would like to share that I met Elzhi last night @ the Oslo Sushi bar thanks to my girl Zana. Oslo’s is a great place to meet & greet with some of Detroit’s best everyday people & local/national/international spot-lighters (celebs). Later in the evening I had the chance to kick it with Elzhi to ask about the new album(s) “Slum Village & Slum Village Prequel to a Classic” which dropped Oct 25, 05’ & July 12, 2005 respectively. I have definitely noticed that SV is not getting any play like they should especially with the success of their last album, so Elzhi let me know that they left Capitol Records & joined Barak Records an Indy Label. At Barak they have to do more pushing out the word to let people know about the record for obvious reason based on label recognition etc.Slum village recently teamed up with GM to shoot a commercial in LA for Chevrolet’s 2006 Impala, which will air during the 2005 Vibe awards. Elzhi also stated that GM produced a video for them as part of the deal. This will no doubt gain them more notoriety. During the course of the conversation I asked Elzhi about his relationship with Little Brother & how it came to be. It was a funny story but I will not give the details, but the bottom line was that he happened to be in Chicago @ one of their shows & asked to meet them. So at the end of the show they hooked up & have been kicking it ever since.
After all of my shit talking, 3 martini’s, sweaty dancing & a contact buzz, it was time to call it a night & head back to the country (it was a long drive home).
Backtrack: I forgot to mention that tonight was a cousin date with Cousin Dee who happened to be in town for the weekend on a break from her job as a FEMA worker helping out the FEMA Ballers (somewhat like a welfare recipient but these are hurricane victims living off of FEAM checks & not doing shit else.) in Texas. We got to Oslo's @ 11:58 & soon as we walked in we were told that the Sushi Chefs were done for the night, I was disappointed because I wanted some avocado rolls & fresh wasabi & ginger. Dee is now on her way to sunny southern Florida for an undetermined time.Labels: About Last Night, Music
